iPod People.

Ever wonder about those people you see about the place with the white cords hanging from their ears?
Nodding their heads in time to some unheard tune, smiling that weird way they do when they see you looking at them.
It may be easy to mistake them for some poor Tourette Syndrome sufferer, but don’t be fooled by their apparently harmless game of musical charades. They’re watching you!
They're watching you and what you do…because they're people watchers!
They observe your gestures and take notes for later… later when they add you as yet another victim of their blog!
..and what makes you think that they're not listening to you as well, you cant hear their music; and just because they bob theirs heads as if to some tune does not mean they actually are…for all you know your discreet conversation is being monitored to be later twisted into a very interesting blog subject.
Or maybe they just wear the earphones to stop people talking to them…it works! (oops! I’ve said too much)
So next time you're close to someone with the little white cords hanging from their ears and you think it’s safe to say what you're actually thinking…you better think again.

It's worse when you're trying to talk to them and they don't listen, just bob their heads and ignore you.

Especially when they haven't even got any earphones in.

Hi Tempo,
I find them rather rude, but that's probably because I'm from a different generation. I also find it rude when you have a dinner party and someones phone rings, and they leave the table to talk on the phone. I always turn off my mobile when I'm with someone at a coffee shop, or out for dinner etc.

I like my music loud and in your face as for those small earphones they will damage your hearing in the end :-).

Hi Jules, Rude aren't they? It seems it's the younger people who don't understand the common courtesy of leaving them out so we can bore the ass of them.
@Mags, although I own two iPods I just cant wear them in public, there's something rude about wearing them around other people that I just cant shake...but then again I live in a place where the people are friendly, I'm sure I'd wear them 24/7 if I lived in the big city.
PS: I went and had a look at her blog, much to intelligent for me...
Hi Windsmoke, I dont wear those little earplugs, they're much to uncomfortable so I wear nice earphones. I agree, the plugs will trash your hearing...and I dont need that!
@Symdaddy, Yes, you've been ratted out mate...you and Pearl both! I laughed at your comment that you dont actually own an iPod...just the plugs..very funny

Never thought that there might not be music attached to the other end of the ear phones!! I may have to try that! =0D

I have an iPohone and ear plugs but have yet to put the two together. Maybe when I start back to the gym......?? But then someone could get hold of me.........Nope, no iPhone in the gym...

Hi KaLynn, I work with mine on, I can listen to what I like while working away but I dont use them anywhere else. I feel a bit rude wearing them in public so dont.

We are absolutely watching you.

:-)

As you say, just because the earbuds are in doesn't mean there's music on, after all. I do some of my best bus-riding-eavesdropping whilst appearing to be listenning to music.

On the other hand, the ones who are truly lost in their little musical fantasies, complete with air drumming or some such? They will be mocked...

Strangely there don't seem to be many people here abouts that wear the little white cords, the exception seems to be women jogging or fitness walking so I dont feel spied upon and of course we wouldn't have it any other way for you Pearl, it makes for such interesting posts.

I may accidentally have tagged you in a meme you might consider doing over at my blog. Take a look, although there's no obligation.

DO IT!!!
