Whimsy

I’ve been away for a few days camping and relaxing. (code for bored out of my head)
I fell off my Yamaha a while back and wrecked a shoulder, I’d just had three Cortisone injections put in and needed to rest it for a while. I went bush so I would have nothing to do but sit in my comfy chair and/or walk the trails. (both of which are good for resting shoulders)
Several interesting things happened while I was up there in the mountains of the Flinders Rangers S 32° 11.045 E 138° 00.564
One night I woke with my mind buzzing*, in my sleep I’d worked out the meaning of life and couldn’t believe it was so simple. I lay there considering the implications for a while, certain that life would never be the same again. Then I drifted off bent on writing it all down in the morning so I could share my revelations with you all.
I woke the next morning remembering the events of the night before but not remembering the revelation I needed desperately to share.
Damn, now I have to work it out again.

Feeling whimsical and admitting honestly that the only decent thing I could make with wood was a really good fire I decided to combine the two and took my one and only saw horse with me…
Very satisfying!

* I had not been drinking

Hi Tempo,
A good way to get rid of an old saw horse. LOL.
It must of been great having a few days to really relax and let the world go by.

I've never gone off on me own like that, maybe I should! :¬)

Perhaps the revelation had to do with “making a fire” with a sawhorse, and its far-reaching implications. I myself have striking, but similarly fleeting post-coital revelations. I’ll stare, wide-eyed and slack-jawed at the ceiling thinking “Yes, I WILL... (I can’t remember the rest), and feel that my life has taken an important turn.

I used to take off in my car, drive for five, six hours in one direction, and check into a hotel, preferably one with a pool. I'm afraid I've watched too many horror movies to comfortable camp on my own, but the urge to "run away" is always there...

I've one and only one word for the meaning of life and that is survival other than that i've no idea what comes next :-).

Glad you clarifed that you had not been drinking! hahaha! Honestly, I don't think anyone would have thought less of you. I think drinking and sitting in the bush go hand-in-hand.

Hi Mags, You got me! It was laying around the yard for years, so long in fact that it had dry rot and just had to go so I took it along as fire lighter. I also carried the entire few days worth of hard wood for the fire..
@Map, I've been going away like this since I was a kid, my friends and I would pack everything on our bikes and go bush, this is one of the advantages of living in the out back.
Hi Jeaux and welcome, It's all a blur now but made total sense at the time. I hate to think I might really have solved lifes great riddle only to have forgotten it.. maybe it was to write things down before you forget them? Hmm!
Hi Pearl, I used to do that too, but with the price of fuel these days.. It's odd to wake up in a strange place and not quite remember where or why. I ended up with the company of two young women but thats another story..
@ Windsmoke..Survival! I guess that sums it up nicely, But just surviving isn't enough is it, there has to be something else, something more!
Hi Sandra and welcome, I agree with you, drinking and camping do go very well together. Being the usual 'designated driver' I seldom get to drink, so sitting in a comfy chair with beer in hand sounds about right. Sadly it's not quite hot enough for that yet. (Early Spring here)
