Hmm, seems I spoke to soon.

Right now it's pouring here in lower South Australia, some 4000km away from where Cyclone Yasi made landfall we are all coping big rains. Virtually right across the country it's raining hard. To put that into perspective...Australia is over 5500km from East to West(3200miles) and some 4000km from North to South (2500miles)and it's raining over most of it.
Yep, it was a big storm!
It's not so bad here, being near the sea there's little likelihood of serious flooding since the water will run straight into the nearby marshes and to the sea..but even so, my yard is completely under water just now...just an inch! But an inch can make all the difference...so my Ex-wife used to say!
It's been 100% humidity and most uncomfortable for several days now but that was broken late today when the rain started..it's still hot and rather nice to go out walking in the rains but a little cooler now.
I had coffee at the beach with daughter/son-in-law and all the kids and friends late today and we really enjoyed the pouring rains, we all got saturated and loved it!

Hi Temp,
We are suppose to get a bit of a shower or 2 tomorrow, looking forward to it. As I have said before, here in Brisbane, we are having a rather milder summer than normal, and that's fine by me. It was 32C here today, but very high humidity.

Isn't it nice to see the rain, after a few hot days, it not only cools things down a bit, but you feel a lot more comfortable as well.

Oh yes, it's been 100% humidity here for days and the rain was wonderful. I guess people around the world will not understand that it can be hot and raining. So lovely to just walk out into the pouring rain and just enjoy it. Still pouring here, only 6 inches in the streets but many roads in low areas flooded and impassible. I don't expect it to get much worse for us.

Floods, Cyclones, Rain!

For once I don't envy you Aussies!

You anywhere near Deception Bay?

How was it here in the floods?

I meant 'there' not 'here'. Doh!

Hi Symdaddy, Im way down on Spencer Gulf in South Australia (great Australian Bight) and even so we have flooding rains. If you click on magsx2's blog you will find a better coverage than any news station. (there above you on the comments)

Rained all night here in Vic with thunder and howling winds thrown in for good measure, not much sleep with all that noise :-).

You don't get storm surge, being near the sea? That's where most of the people die in hurricanes here - they drown in the storm surge.

Hi Windsmoke, for some reason we didn't get the winds, just lots of rain.
Hi Jen, Im in Spencer Gulf which faces out into the southern ocean, we dont get surges coming from that way so we just dont get floods from the sea. Quite the opposite, inland floods pour into the ocean protecting us from the worst of it.

My sister lost her fence but that was all. I am glad you just got the nice rainfall.
