America...

Dear American Citizens,

It's over 225 years since your constitution was drawn up with the right to bear arms.
Did little children and young people get slaughtered in the school yard back then by righteous gun bearing maniacs?
Do you realize that the world you have made is the world that you have. Do you understand that this inalienable right to bear arms is killing your precious future, your babies, your children. You are robbing them of the right to freedom that your forebears fought so viciously for.
Freedom is not freedom lived in fear, carrying weapons.
Your losses have become so great, are so painful to the rest of the world, don't you think it is time to revisit this constitution.
Do you all really have the RIGHT to bear arms?
Dare to dream about putting down those arms, if you don't do it NOW, then those little children traumatized today, may very well do it for you. Save some lives now, do it today.
President Obama, have the guts to do what the rest of the world have been thinking for a very long time. Change now, or continue to bear the consequences.
As for the rest of us, we continue to weep with you for your unbearable loss.
.

Just because some looney goes with a gun...now All guns are Bad...
If you take away the right to own guns , ...the Only the criminals will have guns... the loss of lives ( especially the children) . is indeed sad....
But ...Everyone else should Not be make to suffer or PAY FOR THE ACTIONS OF SO FEW... Think dear sir before condemning the entire human race over the actions of a couple of "sick"people...

I've heard this saying to justify the right to bear arms many times "Guns don't kill people, people do" get rid of the gun and you reduce the slaughter of innocent people especially children who can't defend themselves.

Hi Dr Theda, we had that same debate when guns were banned in Australia, in fact I was one of those who did not want to give up my guns...but I had to. Looking at our society now some years later the guns are indeed centralised in the hands of criminals and law enforcement but we have far fewer gun deaths. One can do only so much damage with a knife but a fast firing/semi automatic gun can kill many people well before law enforcement has time to react. I dont see any other way of stopping these needless deaths.

Hi Windsmoke, You just said pretty much what I was thinking, as a society you have to draw the line somewhere and the constant loss of all these innocents is reason enough I think to move forward into the next century without this ages old killing device.

To quote a line from one of my favourite movies..."the beauty of the Constitution is that it can be changed"

Changing it seems like a great idea after the horrific recent news. The sooner the better, although I dare to say many people will just continue to keep guns, just illegally.

I hate guns and you made a lot of sense. We can all see the madness from the outside but inside the US each massacre makes the Americas just that little bit more crazy and dangerous. They don't have will or the power to fight against those who make profit against these instruments of death. They deny the mentally ill the care they need and wonder why this shit happens almost monthly now. It's sad but will never change.

Another tragedy, this time even worse - the slaughter of innocent childre. But no doubt the NRA will still continue to fund politicians who promote the sale and ownership of guns. It's high time the American citizens leave the Wild West ways behind

Hi River, I truly wish the USA would change it's gun laws, I just cant see the reasoning behind continuing the way they are.
Hey Kal, I agree with you completely mate, the very idea of not treating the mentally ill but still continuing to sell guns seems crazy to most Aussies.
Hi Joe, I looked up the records which are a few years old but show the results of Australia banning guns a few years ago. Total gun deaths in Australia 350 dead a year, mostly from suicides. Total deaths in the USA 31,224 a year... Need I say more?!

Right to bear arms still needed? Heck yeah! Right to carry semi-automatic? NO. Serious hunters aren't going to use them. If you need 100 shots to defend yourself against an intruder, you don't need to own a gun because you can't be trusted not to take out the neighbors and all their pets in the process. There is no reason anyone except military needs to own those weapons and they need to be banned.

Another thing, people need to understand they are responsible for every bullet that leaves their gun. Firing shots into the air at midnight on New Year's is NOT OKAY!!!! People caught doing such stupid things should lose their right to own FOREVER!

Hi Jen, the rest of the civilised world has either banned or reduced the guns in their communities so we look at America having been through the process of getting rid of guns ourselves. You are right, the first step is to get rid of automatic and semi automatic guns.

Tempo, I am actually in full agreement with you. We have two rifles in the house -- both belong to my son and are used for hunting in the fall. Every day, it seems, we hear of someone who has shot their own daughter as she crept in after a late night, a child who has killed his brother while "playing"...

This Minnesotan is tired of it.

Hi Pearl, Ive been shot and been shot at so I know how easy it happens. It's going to take a long time to get rid of all the guns and the gun culture but you have to start somewhere. Getting rid of automatic military guns is a good start.
Aussies can still have guns but you must pass a police check, be drug and crime free and prove you have a lock up 'Gun Safe' before they let you own one, even then, no automatics or semi autos.

I agree, I do not understand why so many think it is alright to own a gun, that said my husband would love to own a gun and there was a time I agreed with him but now days my thoughts have changed. Some people really shouldn't have a gun.

Hi Jo-Anne, I always had guns right up to where I had kids. About then I decided I didnt need them anymore and sold the lot. Since Australia got rid of guns the death rate from guns has gone right down
